When someone isn't eating with you

Football at mealtime, a cook who has to drive, or a child staying with the other parent. How the meal plan shows it, and how you solve it.

Web app

In short: if someone has a routine, an appointment or a trip at mealtime, the meal plan shows it in red. Choose Eating later, Eating out, Packed meal or Not home for that person, and save.

The meal plan finds conflicts

The meal plan looks at what you've already added: routines, appointments and trips. If something overlaps mealtime for someone set to “Eating with us”, it shows on the meal, e.g. “Oliver has Football 17:00–18:30. Eat later at 18:45?”. Sleep and the meal plan's own routines don't count.

If a new conflict appears after you've planned, e.g. a new sports routine, it shows up on the meal and parents get a notification in the iOS app.

Choose a solution

  1. Open the meal

Click the evening in the meal plan. Under Who's eating, the suggestion is shown next to the person.

  2. Pick what fits

Eating later sets a time, e.g. 18:45. Eating out, Packed meal and Not home take the person off dinner.

  3. Save

The conflict disappears, and the meal shows e.g. “Oliver eats at 18:45” instead.

  • Eating later: the person gets “Dinner (saved)” at their own time with the activity “Heat the food”. The cook gets the note “Save 1 serving for Oliver, who eats at 18:45”.
  • Packed meal: “Pack lunch” is added to the morning routine. For a child who packs their own lunch, it goes in the child's own morning routine. Otherwise it goes to the parent who planned the meal.
  • Not home: e.g. when a child is staying with the other parent. The meal plan can't see this by itself, so you set it manually.

When the cook is busy

For the cook and helpers, the meal plan also checks the cooking time. If the cook has to drive to swimming at 17:30, in the middle of cooking, it says e.g. “Jonas is driving to the pool 17:30. Choose another cook?”. In the panel you can choose another adult as cook or press “Keep Jonas”.

Guests and servings

If guests are coming, press + next to Guests. They are added to the servings, and the cook's routine becomes e.g. “Make tacos (6 servings)”. The card in the meal plan shows “+2 guests”.

Children can opt out

A child with their own login can press “I'm not eating with you” on a meal in this week's menu. Parents are notified, and the child's dinner disappears from their day. “I'll eat with you after all” undoes it. Children can't choose other options or opt others out.
