Plan the week's meals

Choose a dish, a cook and a mealtime for each evening. The meal plan adds the cooking and dinner to each person's day for you.

Web app

In short: open Meal plan in the web app, click an evening, choose a dish and a cook, and press Save. The cook gets the cooking as a routine in their day, and everyone eating with you gets dinner.

Before you start

  • You need to be the owner or a parent in the family. Children see this week's menu but can't plan it.
  • The meal plan uses your family's own dishes. If you have none yet, the meal plan asks you to write five dishes you often make the first time. Only the name is needed. See Add dishes and recipes.
  • The meal plan is on for dinner. You turn on breakfast and lunch under Settings → Meal plan.

Plan an evening

The meal panel in the web app with dish, mealtime, cook, helpers and who's eating
  1. Click the day

Go to Meal plan and click “Choose dish” on the evening you want to plan. The panel opens on the right.

  2. Choose a dish

Search your dishes, or pick from wishes and favourites. Not cooking? Type your own, e.g. “Leftovers” or “At Grandma's”.

  3. Set the time and cook

Change the mealtime if it differs. The panel shows when the cook has to start, e.g. “Cook from 16:45”. Choose a cook and any helpers.

  4. Check who's eating

Everyone is set to “Eating with us”. If someone has something else at mealtime, the panel suggests a solution. Press Save.

If an empty day shows a suggestion, such as the day's fixed dish or one of the children's wishes, you can click it directly. The dish is then added with the usual cook and the whole family eating.

Fill the week quickly

At the top of the page is Quick fill. The buttons only fill empty evenings and never touch what you've already planned:

  • Copy last week copies last week's dinners to the same weekdays.
  • Use fixed dishes adds your fixed dishes, e.g. tacos on Fridays. You choose fixed dishes under Settings → Meal plan.
  • Family favourites fills the rest with the dishes you make most often.

Move and swap days

Drag a meal to another day. If the day is empty, the meal moves. If there's already a meal, the two days swap. The routines in your day move with them.

If the plan changed, open the meal, press We had something else and type what you had instead. The dish then doesn't count towards “Made X times”.

What happens in your day

When you save a meal, the meal plan creates ordinary routines, just like the rest of the app:

  • The cook and helpers get e.g. “Make lasagne (4 servings)”, which ends at mealtime. If the dish has steps, they are activities to tick off.
  • Everyone eating with you gets “Dinner: Lasagne”. Anyone eating later gets “Dinner (saved)” at their own time.
  • Preparations like “Take the meat out of the freezer” become an activity in the responsible person's morning routine or the evening routine the day before.

The routines show up in Doing, the weekly plan, the iOS app and on Apple TV. They can only be changed in the meal plan. If you open them under Planning, it says “Managed by the meal plan”.

If something doesn't work

  • I can't click the days. You're logged in as a child. Only the owner and parents can plan.
  • The cook didn't get a routine. A meal typed as free text, e.g. “At Grandma's”, has no cook. Choose one of your dishes instead.
  • “Copy last week” is greyed out. There were no dinners last week to copy.
