Use Siri with Morgenrutine

How to ask Siri what the kids still need to do, tick things off by voice and start the routine on the Lock Screen.

iOS app

In short: say “What is Emma missing in Morgenrutine?”, “Mark brush teeth done in Morgenrutine” or “Start the morning routine in Morgenrutine”. Siri answers out loud, and anything you tick off shows up straight away in the app and on the family’s other devices.

Before you start

  • The Morgenrutine app needs to be installed on the iPhone or iPad, and you need to be logged in.
  • Open the app once after updating. That’s how Siri learns the kids’ names and the activities in your routines.
  • The features need to be turned on in Settings → Siri and Live Activity. See Turn Siri and Live Activity on or off.

Ask what’s left

Siri looks at the routine the child is doing right now and reads out what’s left and how many minutes remain.

  • “What is Emma missing in Morgenrutine?” — what Emma still has to do, and the time left.
  • “How far along are the kids in Morgenrutine?” — a short update for each child, for example “Emma has 2 of 6 left. Oscar is done.”
  • “What am I missing in Morgenrutine?” — when a child asks on their own iPhone or iPad.
Siri reads the answer out loud and shows each child’s progress underneath. Illustration.

If no routine is running, Siri tells you which routine is next and when it starts.

Tick off by voice

  1. Say what’s done

For example “Mark brush teeth done in Morgenrutine” or “Brush teeth is done in Morgenrutine”.

  2. Answer if Siri asks

If more than one child has brush teeth in their routine, Siri asks who it’s for. If you just say “Mark done in Morgenrutine”, Siri asks which activity.

  3. Hear what’s left

Siri confirms and tells you what the child has left, for example “Great, brush teeth is done for Emma. Emma only has coat on left.”

If an activity is meant to be repeated several times, Siri marks it as completely done. If it’s already done, nothing changes, and Siri tells you so. When a child says “I’m done with brush teeth in Morgenrutine” themselves, Siri answers “Well done!”.

Start the routine

Say “Start the morning routine in Morgenrutine” or “Start the routine for Emma in Morgenrutine”. Siri puts the routine on the Lock Screen as a Live Activity with a countdown and the next activity — and it starts on the family’s other devices too. See Follow the routine on the Lock Screen.

Good advice

  • Say the app name at the end. Siri needs to hear “in Morgenrutine” to know the question is for us.
  • Give activities short names. “Brush teeth” is easier to say, and for Siri to recognise, than “Brush teeth properly for 2 minutes”.
  • Use first names. Siri knows the kids by the name they have in the family.
  • Siri speaks your language. It works in Danish, English, German and Dutch — Siri uses the language your iPhone is set to.
  • See every phrase in the Shortcuts app. Under Morgenrutine you can see them all and add them to your Home Screen.

If Siri doesn’t understand

  1. Siri says it’s turned off for your family. A parent can turn it on in Settings → Siri and Live Activity.
  2. Siri doesn’t know the child’s name. Open the app once so Siri gets the latest list of the kids.
  3. Siri can’t find the activity. Siri only looks at the routine that’s running right now. Check that the activity is in it and that the name matches.
  4. Siri says you don’t have access to that child. A child can only ask about and tick off their own activities. Parents can do it for every child in the family.
