Follow the routine on the Lock Screen

How to put the routine on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, tick things off from there and start it from Control Center.

iOS app

In short: say “Start the morning routine in Morgenrutine”, or tap “Start routine” in Control Center. The routine then appears on the Lock Screen with a countdown, progress and the next activity — and it updates every time someone in the family ticks something off.

Before you start

  • The child needs to have a routine running, with at least one activity.
  • Live Activities need to be turned on for Morgenrutine in your iPhone’s Settings. They are when the app is installed.
  • “The routine as a Live Activity” and “Show Live Activity on this device” need to be turned on in Settings → Siri and Live Activity in the app.

Start the routine

  1. Ask Siri

“Start the morning routine in Morgenrutine” starts the routine for every child who has one running. “Start the routine for Emma in Morgenrutine” only starts Emma’s.

  2. Or use the button

Tap “Start routine” in Control Center, on the Lock Screen or with the Action button. See below for how to add it.

  3. Look at the Lock Screen

Each child gets their own Live Activity. If you start the routine again, the new one replaces the old one.

What it shows

  • A countdown to the routine’s end time.
  • Progress, for example “3 of 6”, and the next activity.
  • A button for the next activity. Tap it to tick it off without opening the app. The button is there when “Mark done with Siri” is turned on.
  • The Dynamic Island shows progress and the countdown on iPhone 14 Pro and newer. In StandBy the routine fills the screen while the phone charges.

When everything is ticked off, it says “Great job!” and disappears by itself after a couple of minutes. It also disappears when the routine’s time is up.

The Control Center button

  1. Open Control Center

Swipe down from the top-right corner, and touch and hold an empty spot until you can edit.

  2. Add a control

Tap Add a Control and search for Morgenrutine.

  3. Choose “Start routine”

You can also put the button on the Lock Screen or the Action button. This needs iOS 18.

On the family’s other devices

When the routine starts, it also appears for the child and the parents in the family — on the iPhones and iPads that have the app installed and “Show Live Activity on this device” turned on. Every tick updates all of them, whether it happens in the app, with Siri or from the Lock Screen.

This needs iOS 17.2 or later, and the app has to have been opened once after updating.

If it doesn’t appear

  1. Siri says there’s no routine running. The routine hasn’t started yet, or it has no activities.
  2. Siri says Live Activity is turned off on this device. Turn on “Show Live Activity on this device” in Settings → Siri and Live Activity.
  3. Siri says Live Activities are turned off in the iPhone settings. Open your iPhone’s Settings → Morgenrutine and turn on Live Activities.
  4. It doesn’t appear on the other parent’s phone. Check that the phone has iOS 17.2 or later, that the app has been opened after updating, and that the person is a parent in the family.
