Add dishes and recipes

Keep the family's dishes in one place, with the recipe as text, a link or a PDF, steps for the cook and preparations that go into the morning routine.

Web app

In short: go to Meal plan → Dishes and press New dish. Only the name is required. You can add time, steps, recipe and preparations whenever you like.

Start with five dishes

The first time you open the meal plan, it asks “What do you often eat?”. Write the names of five dishes you make often and press Save dishes. Then you have something to choose from when planning the week. The dishes get 30 minutes of cooking time and 4 servings, which you can change later.

Create a dish with details

  1. Name, symbol and time

Type the name, pick a symbol, and set the cooking time and number of servings.

  2. Meals and labels

Choose whether the dish works for breakfast, lunch or dinner, and what it contains: fish, nuts, gluten, lactose, pork or meat.

  3. Create dish

Press Create dish at the bottom. On the right you can see what the cook's routine will look like.

Labels are used for warnings. If Settings → Meal plan says a person avoids fish, the meal plan shows “Emma avoids fish” on days with fish.

Recipe as text, link or PDF

  • Text: type or paste the recipe.
  • Link: paste the link to a recipe online. The link opens in the browser.
  • PDF: drag in a PDF or click to choose it. Max 10 MB. Press View to read it, or Remove to take it off again.

The cook can open the recipe from their routine in Doing. Children can read the recipe but can't edit the dish.

Steps for the cook

Steps become activities in the cook's routine, e.g. “Brown the meat” 10 min and “Bake in the oven” 25 min. Press Add step, type the name and choose minutes. Drag the handle to change the order. Enter in a step adds a new step below.

If the steps take longer than the cooking time, it says e.g. “The steps take 1 h 15 min — the cooking time is 1 h”. Press “Use 1 h 15 min” to update the time. Without steps, the cook gets one activity: “Make lasagne”.

Preparations

A preparation is something that has to happen before cooking, e.g. “Take the meat out of the freezer” or “Make the dough”. Choose In the morning or The evening before. When the dish is planned, the preparation is added as an activity to the responsible person's morning routine the same day, or to the evening routine the day before.

This works best when the routine is marked as “First routine of the day” or “Last routine of the day”. If the person has no such routine, the meal plan creates a small routine at 7:00 or 20:00 with the preparation.

Edit or delete a dish

Click the dish under Dishes. If you change the time or steps, the cook's routine is updated for meals that haven't been made yet. If you delete a dish, planned meals keep the name.

Dishes with a heart are the family's favourites: the dishes you make most often. “Made X times” only counts meals that were eaten, not those where you pressed “We had something else”.
